I totally don't understand it, how can I progress faster?

You dont fight, you just watch them, when your first fight is over which i suspect you will lose like i did, you click on go to your cell, then go to arena.
From there you selsect an opponent, pick one that has less strength, speed and agility levels, so that you win that fight, do it again for your remaining fights then you should get more credits to add special abilities to move on to harder fights.

Hope that makes sense lol

Edit: i just completed all my fights for today and gained a sword and some health points. Its ok as a quick distraction from life lol, reminds me a bit of the top trump cards we had as kids just computerised lol once you finished your games for today you have to wait till today while your brute 'rests' ;-)
