It's an american list and the way it's worded I think applies to american tours.

to me it rather looks like the largest amount someone got for 1 concert,so just a single show

and cause of the price is given in swiss francs that might be the record within the suisse

by the way sometimes bands earn $100 million on one tour or more

lol frankie... i wish she will make it one day cause she deserve it!

Are you sure, Frankie? That seems an awful lot of money to make on a tour...

Anyhow, as for the most successful artists in the sense of records, singles, videos, downloads etc. sold:
1) The Beatles
2) Elvis Presley
Then there's a big gap until the rest come along. I'll write a full list as soon as I get some time.

bloodflowerz,
you have to think about the fact that in the past few years concerts became much more expensive and also stars earn more money today than in the past.

each couple of years someone is making new sales records and income records,in the 50's or 60's 1 million dollars was quite a lot but today big stars earn easily many millions a year.

i know that my fav band kiss had the most successful tour in 1996 worldwide when they went on reunion tour, they earned $ 100 million in that year

i quickly checked the internet and found out that in 2005 U2 had the most successful tour and earned $ 260 million and rolling stones made $ 437 million in their two-year-tour in 2006/7 and madonna earned $ 200 million on her confessions tour.

the most successful tour of a female singer says the guinness book of world records of 2007 was cher's farewell tour that brought her more than $ 250 million

i also heard of private shows of big stars where they earned $ 1-3 million in just one night and that makes me believe that your given numbers are for just a single show

That being the case, that must be so, Frankie. Really extraordinary, these kinds of fees being paid to a chosen few and so many artists struggling to make a living...

well the sad fact is that you don't earn money for being good but for being famous.

there are many really good musicians who probably never see "the day of light" while some ass-shaking bimbos hit the charts and make big bucks (=much cash, for the ones who didn't understood the term)

sometimes you even have to pay money for playing your shows,if you are supporting famous bands then you often have to pay money to the headliner to support them.

i remember that the german band "die ärzte" supported KISS on their 1999 "psycho circus tour" and that only because they paid the highest amount of money to KISS (the secret behind that is die ärzte themselves are big KISS fans and wanted to go on tour with their idols that's why they outbid everybody else and because they were already rich themselves they could offer more money than other bands)

friends of mine (which name i leave unnamed) wanted to go on tour with bon jovi as support act but they didn't have enough money, bon jovi wanted a few thousand euros for each show

or let's take los angeles, there they have a special system that is called "pay to play" and it means if you want to play a concert in the most famous clubs you have to pay money to be able to play there. the reason behind it is these famous clubs attract many musicbusiness people (AR-artists,managers,label-bosses,other famous musicians, etc.) so you have better chances to get a contract or become famous just by playing in these clubs and so many bands exist there who want to play in these clubs so that they changed the habit and now the clubs want money from the band for letting them play their show.

i know that sounds crazy and i also think that's crazy but it is a fact. in the end that means not the good bands play their shows, the bands who have the most money play there

and in a certain way that's also a little bit like that in the charts,no the bands with the best quality make the hits, the ones who are most famous and have enough cash to do big shows, much advertising and expensive videos shoot to the top :-(

So many unknown names.. I should be ashamed i guess. But the first one.. well, we played Alias and someone had to explin the word "sir elton john". I went like.. "The famous singer.." silence. Everyone had a face "thats it?!" and then someone said "sir elton john". So in some ways he is where he should be..

Thanks for a VERY VERY VERY interesting and enlightening write-up, Frankie!!! I kind of knew a lot of the things you said, but have never thought it through thoroughly or seen it written up so logically. Makes one kind of sad, really...

Lol Proxroxx!

Re Britney Spears I respect that she's managed to come from absolute rock-bottom back to a number 1 album. That's something (I think) nobody's done before.
