View Full Version : Estonia
i think we should start a thread about marya's homecountry estonia
some fans come from there and many would like to go there so we can exchange information about it here
my first question to mel is what are the hottest temperatures there in the summer?
you talked about having 29 degrees and got a sunburn,29 degrees is hotter than hell, oops i mean hotter than here :-D
i thought in estonia it's really cold?

If you've ever been to tropical countries Frankie, 29 degrees is nothing! :-)
If you've ever been to tropical countries Frankie, 29 degrees is nothing! :-)
bloodflowerz you don't need to tell me about hot temperatures,i always spend my holidays in the desert with temperatures between 30 and 50 degrees,so if there is anybody who loves it hot then it's me :-D
i just think 29 for estonia is really hot for this country, personally for me that's just a lil bit warm ;-)

Good to know! :-) The hottest I've ever experienced was 56 degrees at 100% humidity... It's like a fist blow straight in your face!

hey bloodflowerz, where was that? the world record is 56,7 degrees in a desert and usually temperatures above 50 degree are always in a desert where they have low humidity,or did you count the degrees in the shadow somewhere?
bloodflowerz

That was in Papua New Guinea in 2000 and yes, in the shade.

Juhhei! I love this thread. :-D
And frankie.. Estonia is cool place in that way, summers are about 30 degrees and.. and winters.. well, sometimes -30, :-D
so if anybody ever visited estonia leave your comments and impressions of the country in this thread
and sure every member who lives there can post about the country too
the more information we get the more exciting it will be,who knows, maybe some people will travel there in the future to see a marya liveshow or a mel-liveshow ;-)

younger people speak english. it depends a lot actually in what part of estonia you are at the moment. for example, ive been in shop where clerk spoke only russian - no english, no estonian.
we cant complain about turists. I live in Tartu - city of the wisdom (the oldest univeristy is there) which means we have a lot of exchange students. Tourists come mostly from Finland and England. Young english guys like estonia because "the most beautiful girls live in estonia" as it is said. :-)
well i haven't been there before but i believe that the most beautiful girls come from there :-D:-D:-D

can anybody explain the colors of the national flag of estonia?
blue - our blue sky
black - our black ground (soil) and .. working men black jacket. ("doneky jacket). (For example, in south estonia the national dress of men is long black jacket)
white - the color of purity, sincerity and sacred. also, the hope of the better future

is vanilla ninja still the # 1 band in estonia right now?
I've just heard that Lenna had a gig at the Tallinn Days on Reakoja Plats. I have been to Estonia one year ago, exactly. That has been the best journey in my life :-) In august I go there again, but actually to Finland... But ferries are so cool!
bloodflowerz
05-06-2009, 20:47
Ah you're so lucky, Nicola! I'm very jealous...
No reason to be jealous, you can go there easily! Last year I took a flight to Tallinn, but it's much cheaper if you go to Helsinki and take a ferry to Tallinn, like I do this summer :-)

For others, estonian eat a lot of weird stuff. But if you try it, it's actually really tasty. "black pudding" for example. Thing that people who are not from estonia dont like at all. for some reason.. :-(

We have had rain almost the whole June. I like rain, but not if it wont stop for days. If i want that, id go to england. (At least all commercials say that there is only rain. Tetley for exampl. Cool commercial tho. I think this screams for England!). Anyway, yesterday the weatherforcast said: more rain! I said it will be sunny. Lesson is: dont trust forcast, trust me! ITS SUNNY.
I just wanted to say that we have amazing weather in Estonia again. :)
that makes me happy for you :devildance:
maybe you should get a job at the weatherforecast-show mel :-D

This year, I was three times there. And two times I'll go there again, maybe a third time also :-D
I can't live without Tallinn anyway. This town is so... unbelievable great...

very cool beelee. it's easier to get there from germany than from austria.. but i've been to tallinn two times as well :)
As I were there, the sun always shined :-D And the cities are just great... Everywhere something nice to see and so on :)
I always were there to see Vanilla Ninja :) I think, if I wouldn't be a fan, I wouldn't know what Estonia is^^
Estonia sounds like a very cool place. It would be great if Marya did a show there so some of us could combine a trip there with a Marya show :-D

well maybe some interesting facts about tallin, estonia's capital:
-the "tallinna raeapteek" is europe's oldest pharmacy that's still running,it's in tallin since 1422
-the "teletorn" is is a tv-tower in tallin and with its height of 314 meter it's the second highest freestanding building in europe
-estonia's nationalsport is singing so it's even more respectable that marya already won several singing contests in her homecountry
the story of the "M/S estonia" is probably the most famous story about estonia (at least for people outside of estonia cause it made estonia wellknown in other parts of the world)
the M/S estonia was a ro-ro-eastsee-ferry (ro-ro stands for roll on-roll out and means you could drive with your car right into the ferry and out again through the huge frontdoor that clapped down). on its way from tallin to stockholm on september 28th 1994 the ship sank and 852 people died which made it the biggest ship-catastrophy in europe after world war 2. it also was the biggest and most modern passenger ship estonia had back then.
after midnite water entered the ship and made it sink,so far it's not 100% sure how the catastrophy happened. while official press said the front door broke some others think of an explosion or that someone on board were forced to open the door.
background stories report that maybe the russian mafia or some secret services transported illegal loads (weapons and/or plutonium) and the organisation behind that found out that the customs in stockholm were ready for a search allover the ship when it entered the harbour in stockholm so they gave order to their fellows on the ship to make it sink (not knowing that it would end in such a catastrophy).
the M/S estonia is on the ground of the eastsee today, first there were plans to make a coffin out of concrete around it but then others ships put rubble and rubbish on top of it and later on they declared that nobody was allowed to go nearer than one mile around the M/S estonias otherwise he would end in prison. (i never heard of something like that anywhwere else so that's already suspicious)
in 2006 the whole case was researched again after some witnesses gave interviews and it was found out that certain things weren't like thought before, also some underwater photos appeared which showed things that couldn't be explained with the official story.
jutta rabe,a german tv journalist, made a movie about the conspiracy,it's called "baltic storm" and is a great movie that i can highly recommend. it's the story of two passengers who were saved by the second captain on board. they all landed in a hospital and later on the second captain dissappeared and was officially declared to be one of the many victims. but the 2 passengers, one of them a journalist, which lives were saved by him did research about the whole case and later found out that the reality is another story, they even got hunted by killers. so this movie is a first class "docu-thriller" .
so some strange facts around this case make me think that it is possible that it wasn't a normal accident but a manmade catastrophy. illegal smuggling and transactions between the russian mafia and the swedisch government are reason enough to believe that this tragedy was caused by humans. anyway if you know how secret services work than it's not even a surprise and also remember, they didn't plan to kill 852 people, they probably thought most (if not all) would get saved by ships around cause its route was a seastreet where many ships are going through and they expected the M/s estonia not to sink so quick.
I'd never heard about this till today frankie when I read it in your other post (sorry for not replying to all of your posts yet lol, none are ones I can answer fast and I'm lacking time today :-p) I thought Zeebrugge was the biggest yet, but this one was far worse :-(
This weekend I was in Tallinn again and I must say... I just love this city, this country and Piret Järvis :-D I met her and as a Piret Freak like me, it's such a gift :)
