View Full Version : Wow!!
Just wanna give recognition to an awesome drummer.
I was fortunate to be close enough to observe John on the recent ML tour and boy does he work hard!! He never seems to let up and you can see the passion in every hit (tech term?? :hmm:)
A real asset to Marya i'm sure, i hope to see these guys together soon in the uk :marya_band:
John is IMO the best drummer on the planet :drums:
I've also seen John many times, mostly as a cymbal head granted as his drums are always in the way  But he truly is amazing and a huge asset to Marya's band
Not that i'm biased or anything :hehe:
Deb
lol they did seem to be badly placed lol they dont look that high on the marya clips i've seen, do you know if they are lower/different set or just the angle the vids were taken??
Yeah it's a different kit, but I think it's the angle as well on these Marya videos. The House Of Blues (MUsexpo 08) one was taken up stairs by the looks of it and the Totally Band In Vegas one would have been taken by a proper camera thats up higher (does that make any sense? lol) Just as the MSO and Three Bats DVDS don't have John as cymbal heads
I've requested many times that the drums be lowered or the guilty cymbal be moved at Meat Loaf shows lol, but funnily enough nobody seems to take any notice of me  Maybe i'll just get up on the stage and do it myself next time :hehe: Or maybe i'll just stick to Marya shows where I can see a face instead of a cymbal :flutter:
lmao i'm sure i hear cymbals from time to time so i reckon he needs them lol
i know!!! We need to invent remote control cymbals so he just needs to wave a stick in that general direction lol  we could put it further away from him then.
Ah yes but there are many cymbals, it's just the one tiny weeny one I have a REAL problem with
http://forum.maryaroxx.com/picture.php?albumid=3&pictureid=51
This one
ah well surely THAT one doesnt make much sound, dont need it imo :-p
OK so it's a deal, we head the move that cymbal campaign ;-)
John is amazing! I just wish that I could get a good picture for Deb lol.
Aww I knew I loved you for a reason lol
I just like proving theres a reason to love me.
I just like proving theres a reason to love me.
now just think how much she'll love ya if you get that pic :flutter:
I know, I've been trying for years its just so elusive. That pic will be mine though.
perhaps we should try to get John to take up a smaller instrument :-p
perhaps we should try to get John to take up a smaller instrument :-p
We shall just have to persuade him to get a smaller kit surely that makes more sense?
I'm sure that will please him lol :drums:
Well just for the one show... Just so we can get loads and loads of pictures and I'm sure that'll please us for well at least a month or two lol.
John is simply awesome and a really nice bloke to boot. Its like a mission trying to get good pics of him! I am in for move the cymbals campaign!! I have got some great pics of John in the past, well worth the 300 taken to get that really superb one!:-D
Thank goodness for digital cameras lol, a hell of a lot cheaper than taking loads of rolls of film with rubbish on to be developed for on pic lol
OMG I have nightmares even thinking about the amount of money I used to spend on 'on the hr' printing to get one pic out of 300 lol. thank god for digital. And no scanning :-D Just days and weeks of renaming and photoshopping lol.
lol yes digi-cams are great inventions ;)
I own 3 of them lol

Ok, I will play a bongo next tour so that you all can see my funny faces. :) I promise next show I will move that little cymbal. What if I place a camera and hook it up to skype or my web site so you all have a front row seat. Im sure Deb can figure it out. I will do it at one of the Next Marya gigs.
Peace
John
Now that sounds like a great plan John
Bongos, funny faces and cameras sound good to me :-D But I would rather be there than watch it on skype lol. I wonder if you'd be the first drummer to have a show on webcam :hehe:
You do know i'm actually gonna hold you to this don't you :-p
Deb
he is awesome drummer and u are very lucky..very preety photo
Thanks Kostas :-) That picture was taken at The Key Club in LA in May  and yes when it comes to Marya and her band anyone that meets them are very lucky as they are all very friendly and cool people :flutter: They always have time for their fans

That's a cool idea John  well maybe not so much the bongo thing :hmm:
If you're gonna move the cymbal though you'll have to check with Deb where she is sitting :hehe:
I hope she pushes you on the vid idea though, that really would be very cool
Even if the vid idea wasn't broadcast you'd get some incredible stills from it
I just want to echo Chelle's post. John is awesome and he's lovely. Always polite, can't ask for a nicer person. Just wish I could get better pics.

Just an idea John, but if you are thinking of doing it, it might just be easier to set up a camcorder then transfer the vid to a computer for uploading to your site or something, doesnt neccessarily have to be a live thing  hope you are serious about it cos it sounds like such a cool idea.
That's a good idea Anji, it would probably benefit us over the pond if it wasn't live. We'd probably be in bed at the time of the concert.

Camcorder would sound pretty bad I think. I know how hard it is to video shows as it is but the drums really distort it. And would have to be uploaded which ever way it was done unless it was a proper webcast I guess?
If John isn't serious then I will pay Joe to do it or fly there myself and do it :lmao:

Hmm hopefully they can work out the more practical side of it then  i would love to see up close what John does, even if i cant hear it :-p
Are you sure you would want to go and do it yourself Deb?? I mean we wouldnt wanna put you out or anything :-p
We can always ask Joe to record from behind lol.
hmmm Anji, it will be a chore but i'll do it just for all of you :-D
did u saw me in the site i gave...or on facebook?

I'm in great favour of both these ideas! Wherever the cymbal is, it always seems to replace your face in photos, and as for front row seat everytime...perfect idea for poor people like little old me that can't go everywhere i'd love to ;-) ...so anyway...great idea *hint hint* ;-)

I just got a video camera and am going to give it a shot. Then I can post the show on a site, or I mean Deb can. :hehe: I am also working on having a a live broadcast from my studio. Skype maybe? Thanks all for the nice things you all have posted. I do try to read all. You all ROCK.
Peace
John
Wow, i'm soooo glad you have actually looked into this John, thats so cool that you are trying to keep your word.
I guess doing a broadcast from your studio, you would be able to control the sound problems better maybe :hmm:
Live gig sounds cool too, i hope you guys can make it work but you are a star for even trying
Thanks for keeping us updated John, we really appreciate your involvement here

I did notice that Marya pays special attention to who she sings with, or better: who is in her band. I guess after all her bad experiences with VN, it was really important to only have truly serious musicians in the band! Rock on Marya!

Well Joe and I spent 2 days in the studio miking up the drums and runnin cables, then half a day at the mac store for the camera and wireless. I promise by monday I will send Deb a bunch of pics to post. We are really close to being done. Actually Joe is running a drum tuning clinic at my studio for all my students. That I will also film.
You all ROCK.
