Sorry Frankie, but that's simply not true. I use it only when needed and it definitely is NOT addictive. Furthermore, you do NOT need a prescription for medicines containing codeine. Any serious doctor will tell you, that it's the best medicine against a cough. And NO, I do not work for the pharmaindustry. You definitely have a phobia, Frankie. a friend of mine once got some medicine with codeine from his doctor but when he read the paper that included the list with side-efects it was almost endless and even included DEATH. i saw it with my own eyes and couldn't believe it,they give you medicine that can kill you. so i asked a friend of mine who is a doctor what he thinks about it and he said nobody should use this kind of medicine cause it's not good for your health and people who use drugs sometimes even try to get this medicine to get high or as drug-substitute. so in the end my friend didn't used this medicine and he was shocked that his doctor describe it to him.

well i can speak from a bit of experience and M might post himself about this because he gets it prescirbed from the doctors for his migraines and is only allowed a few prescriptions per year BECAUSE of it's addictive nature, so i'm afraid Frankie is right (never heard of the heroin link though) you can buy an extremely 'watered' down version over the counter mixed in with paracetamol but codeine itself can only be prescribed over here and even then they really dont like to, M gets it for very specific reasons and beacuse his migraines are few and far between but are exceptionally bad when he does get them. But even then he had to pass their requirements to make sure he didnt have an addictive nature.

I'm not saying what switzerland hold to be true is wrong, i'm just telling you how it is viewed and used here in the uk.

Couple of quick points....

Codiene is an opiate from the same "family" as herion and for that reason, to the best of my knowledge, has never been used as a herion replacement, that honour goes to methadone which is a man made opioid which although works in the same manner as herion it does not produce the high that herion does.

Opiates such as codiene, morphine etc are also prescribed to reduce coughing as they decrease the nerve messages from the brain that causes you to cough. This is very common in cases of terminal lung cancer etc but anything that you buy that has codiene in it to help with a cough will have a greatly reduced dosage.

All opiates such as codiene have many many wide and varied side effects, they shouldn't be taken by anybody with a respiratry disorder or irregular heartbeat for example. All opiates are extremely addictive, that's no joke, I know people that have had to go on methadone programs because of their addiction to prescribed opiates let alone herion.

On another note they're brilliant, I love mine lol

Ok, just to clear up a few things:

1) In response to Frankie: of course you have the same right to help as I do, I never suggested otherwise. However, to come along with such a response to my clearly well-intentioned offer of help I find distasteful. I have used Resyl Plus myself for years, because I unfortunately get coughs and flu's frequently. Never have I had any side-effects nor has anyone I know or even heard of. As Monstro clarifies, it's extremely low dosage and is indeed the best medicine for coughs. I happen to have an excellent doctor and he agrees. As for the extreme side-effects, they are side-effects which occur in just as extremely rare cases where the worst imaginable combination of coincidences happen to the same person. In fact, the one case of death you mention is the only one I have ever heard of (out of millions who use this medicine). So the chance of being affected so negatively is about as great as getting hit on the head by a falling ice block off a plane.

2) In response to Anji: as you say, in fact you can get medicines containing codeine in the UK without a prescription, for example "Syndol", which contain other ingredients as well. As for it being addictive, I can speak for myself and for all the many people I know: I have never heard of anyone being addicted to Resyl Plus. Ever.

3) It is evident, that any medicine which is truly dangerous and is causing serious difficulties, will be taken off the market quickly. These companies want to make money and they cannot afford bad press. So I refuse to be afraid or scared off by the scare-tactics of the "doomers and gloomers". Just as I refuse to be pulled into all the conspiracy theories. As mentioned before: they take the fun out of life, when really we could be having fun.

ok so i think this just needs to be hit on the head now, something has obviously hit a nerve with you, no one is demonising these drugs but there are lots and lots of prescription drugs that are addictive, prozac is another that springs to mind. Yes i did say it is in over the counter drugs too but the amount in those is so minimal its barely worth putting it in :roll:
I dont think anyone (certainly not me or M) are saying they need to to be taken off the market but people do have to be aware of what they are taken, and it is stressed to patients over here the possible problems of taking them, but as i also said M has never had a problem.

p.s i have no idea exactly whats in Resyl Plus, i've never heard of it, but i am talking about the high dose that M is prescribed. True fact information isn't scare mongering, it is just about being aware of what you have.
