View Full Version : Fiat Punto or Renault Clio?

Not sure how much anyone here knows about cars but i need a few more opinions on these two cars lol.

Sam has found two cars to replace the old one. A Fiat Punto and a Renault Clio (which is what she had before...) both 2003 Reg.. both £1400... both have about the same tax and mot give or take a month and is aug/oct this yr... The Punto has full service history, with a new cambelt recently fitted and is currently owned by a police woman. it has about 40,000 on the clock... and is in immaculate condition.

The Clio we havent seen yet but Sam 'says' it has been looked after. They boy who has it is apparently a good driver and not a boy racer. It's in the garage at the moment as he has had problems with stalling...

Any ideas? I like the Punto but Chelle and others have said they aren't good and crumble on impact in a crash. How can they be allowed on the market if this is the case though

Thanks Kostas :-D do you mean the Puntos aren't good?

KOSTAS

Anji

hmm i guess if she had a clio before and was happy with it then another clio would make sense.

I dont really know alot about cars so i dont know really, punto sounds like a great deal and i have never heard that said about them crashing :hmm:

i have no idea but i am glad Sam is finally able to get another car :-D bet she cant wait to get back on the road again

i also think the renault is the better one cause it's of better quality,my dad used to work for a used car dealer and never talked good about fiats,so i would go for the renault even though i'm personally no fan of this brand

Deb
12-01-2009, 23:43
Yeah Anji, If I hadn't heard anything I'd think it was good as well

So even if the Clio hasn't been looked after as welland doesn't have the service history the other has you all still think the Clio is better  I'm so confused lol

frankie
12-01-2009, 23:54
well if you can't make a decision i have a good tip for you,buy a porsche, that's the best quality ;-)

Deb
12-01-2009, 23:57
Why didn't I think of that Frankie lolol

Chelle

I asked me nephew the trainee mechanic, he has just bought a Renault Clio, so i think that says something for the car. I would always make sure the car has a full service history, this is very important, so are there no Renault Clio's available with a full service hsitory? That been said the Fiat Punto my nephew and Stu said are not great cars to have, due to them not been very solidly built.
Are there any other cars avilable?

Deb
13-01-2009, 00:12
Chelle my darling, I have no idea what I'm talking about lol. You know more than me with cars :hehe: As you know Sams idea of a good car is what colour seat covers it has, so It's all down to me

Chelle

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/CARS/buying/buying_a_car.jsp

look on there, they give price guides, what to look for in a car, service history etc, what you should pay for a car with what miles, it might give you an idea.

Deb

Does it tell me where I can find the perfect one :hehe: Thanks Chelle will look in morning :-)

Not quite, but put in your postcode and it will fetch up used cars in your area for sale:-) Good luck!

Deb

I need it :-p

bloodflowerz
13-01-2009, 20:34
Whatever you buy Deb, just make sure it's NOT a Fiat. All the people I know who ever owned one say the same thing: they're crappily built and the repairs are constant and very expensive. The Clio on the other hand I've heard only good reports about.

Deb
14-01-2009, 21:43
OMG I can't believe how many of you said not to buy the fiat AND......

I DID!!!:shock::shock::shock: I made Sam buy it today... spoke to the mechanic who does our cars and he thinks It's a great bargain, considering price, service history etc.... I really hope I don't live to hear I told you so a million times

I hope you don't either. We had a car that ended up being a real lemon and it was such a pain. Best of luck with the new car!

Anji

I hope you made the right choice too Deb :-)

Deb
14-01-2009, 22:02
Thanks both of you :-)

Sam had me running around all over the place today getting money out of every part of me she could  We went to the bank and Sam was getting parking ticket while I parked... When she came back she saw me running over to some woman who was reversing out of her parking space with me waving at her to stop.... Yep you got it she was driving a Fiat Punto  I asked her if they was as bad as everyone said and she said yes and she wanted to blow hers up today  But the things she had said had gone wrong with it, IMO could have gone wrong on any car in the period she's talking about. Or does with me anyway lol... As we walked away after Sam said to me Mum, You are soooo random lol. But wasn't in the least bit surprised I'd gone up to a complete stranger and asked them that lol. Nor was she surprised that after this woman saying this that I was still making her buy it :hehe:

Anji
14-01-2009, 22:35

just wondered how is the car going, and how is Sam getting on with it ?

Deb
03-03-2009, 10:50
As far as i'm aware the car is fine lol. But I'm not so sure these older 4 tell me everything  I guess practise is a good thing and the longer she's on the rd and the older she gets the better she will get :hmm:

I still panic everytime she goes out and the phone rings though :-( would be much happier if she wasn't driving to be honest :-)

Anji
03-03-2009, 15:59
I think she's a reasonably sensible girl Deb, and she will get better and more confident the more she is out, unfortunately there is no better experience than practical :hmm:

I hope over time you feel a bit better about her driving and that it is just the fact she had an accident so soon after getting the last one :-( did you feel the same about the others?

frankie
03-03-2009, 16:08
let sam drive to each and every marya roxx show here in germany with her car and after that she wil be a successful and good driver

and by the way you would get a free ride to each show ;-)

Deb
03-03-2009, 16:33
 there would be nothing free about that :hehe: I'd have to pay for her tickets, petrol, hotels, food :-D

frankie
03-03-2009, 16:51
well deb who cares about the money if you could see all shows? hahaha

Deb
03-03-2009, 23:03

battybarb
04-03-2009, 08:06

frankie
20-07-2009, 08:38
is the car still alive? ;-)

Deb
22-07-2009, 15:32
Ah Sams car :hehe:

Hmmm let me see, the head gasket blew a while back  I thought that meant disaster but apparently not  A few hundred pund and all was sorted, much better than I thought it would be. It also sailed through the MOT (Our system to keep half decent cars on the rd) so all in all the cars doing good, with a few scratches it never had before Sam got it though. Now sam's 'driving' is another matter and one me and her do not agree on at all :hehe:

All in all the car seems to be a good buy. Thanks for asking all of you :-D

bloodflowerz
23-07-2009, 00:26
Lol!

Anji
23-07-2009, 23:19
i forgot all about the gasket lol i'm glad it got sorted :-)

Deb
25-07-2009, 00:48
:hmm:

I take all that back... Looks like we may have another write off

Some stupid cow with a car full of Michael Jackson look alikes went into the side of Sam as she was on a roundabout. Totally the other persons fault but that doesn't help the car :-( Sam's ok, but don't think the car is going to be :-(

badforgood
25-07-2009, 02:44
Oh no!!!:-(:-(:-( I'm awfully sorry to hear that. I'm glad to hear that no one was hurt!

Deb
25-07-2009, 21:39
Thanks both of you :-) Yeah today has been a nightmare day of Sam trying to sort it out. I'm sure the stress has only just begun lol.

bloodflowerz
25-07-2009, 21:47
It's terrible when something like this happens... can ruin such a young person's confidence in driving... So sorry this had to happen to her.

Anji
26-07-2009, 13:04
oh no Deb, give Sam a big hug from me, that poor girl doesn't get much luck does she, I'm glad she's ok though, that's the most important thing :hugs:
