View Full Version : Soap Box
Thought we needed somewhere for general rants... not like the whole day being shit like the other one lol, but a one of rant about something
So here's what inspired me :hehe:
Dave has been looking foa ages for a new computer for me. Tons of research has gone into finding what he wanted for what he could afford. Today we went to look at the one he had found in pc world. Got someone to get us one and off we went to go home with it. As dave was putting it in the car he saw it had 2 x 1gb of memory and 2 x 512mb of ram in it. Equalling 3gb. It was supposed to have 4gb in it  And was advertised that way on the net and in the shop. I went back in to ask if we had the right one and showed them where it said 4gb. They said sorry looks like it's a typo we can refund you and you can buy another with the same spec. To cut a VERY (4hrs) story short, I said but I don't want it refunded, I want what I paid for and that's that spec comp with 4gb memory  I have no bloody idea what happened to the customer is always right but it dies out a long time ago in this country I can tell you (Best customer service I have ever had is the USA TRU  but thats another story lol)
Anyway they wasn't budging and got stroppy and said there was nothing they could do and basically tough... I was pretty sure that if something was displayed as something it had to be sold like that. They seemed to think not  So I kept on and on and on and on and on, for hrs  He kept saying there ws nothing he could do, so I said well I'm sorry but I want 4gb in that computer, so why can't you put another gb in so I get what I paid for, eventually he agreed to this. Got some techy to open it up and low and beyold it can;t be upgraded. now bear in mind I'd sepnt an hr before aying with the salesman talking me into buying extra protection at £6.99 a month to cover 2 free upgrades a yr and other crap. He told me this comp could be upgraded from 4gb to 6gb. Yeah right, bloody glad I didn't fall for that as well  So we were back to sorry nothing we can do but give you your money back. So 2 and a half hrs later, turning into 4 ice blocks we hadn't got any further... I wasn't budging and finally got him to say they'd find another comp with same spec and match the price. SoI said ok. They couldn't find one with the same spec, what a suprise  So we ended up back to the same crap of we can only refund your money. I said so why can't I have the next nearest to it, after all It wasn't my mistake and It's ok for them to have sold god only knows how many 3gb of memory as 4gb to the whole nation who hasn't got a clue they have 3gb  Nooooo they can't do that, but i'ts ok for them to rip me and thousands of others off  Then he stared to get the hump as the shop shut in 5 mins. So we ended up with a not so good comp for the same money :-( By this time I was dying of starvation and to week to argue. I asked if I could keep the print out that said 4gb on it for proof that it happened, he went off to ask and 3 of them came back and said no as it was their property and they needed it  as they were was saying this I was folding it up and it was slipping into my pocket :flutter: They aren't getting away with it that easy lol. So tomorrow after sleep and food I'll be fighting a lost cause once more lol.
Had to get that off my chest
Awwwwwwww I got mad reading this really:rant:
And yeah wondering how many "4GB" comp's they sold that were 3GB...
I hope smt like this wont happen to me when I go to buy a new one,as this one is dead :-D
wow Deb, thats really crappy of them, i'm sure theres a trade description thing in this country that they have to adhere to with this kinda stuff, guess they bank on the genreal public not knowing exactly what they are entitled to, I hope you get this sorted in your favour.
It's a good thing you know a bit about computers lol cos i wouldve probably been fobbed off with big tech words lol
When i read that you got a new comp i thought 'great, about time lol', so sorry you still havent really got one hun :-(
Jas I hope it doesn't happen to you either :-(
Yeah I thought the trades descrition act meant you had to sell something as it says. IE I should have got a 4gb for the price of the now 3gb
Oh if you had all been flies on the wall :hehehe:
i wouldve hated to be the manager dealing with you for sure Deb :hehe: i guess maybe in their defence there is only so much they can do at a store level, but the 'refund, take it or leave it' attitude doesn't help one bit!!
I had this with Toys R Us in England the other yr... I went over to Phoenix to visit Cindy... bought some xmas pressies. thinking toys r us is safe we have one if theres anything wrong... got home and needed a refund on a camera... I talked till I was blue in the face  ended up losing it big time... Got home rang the USA store I bought it from and they said they were really sorry I had such a bad time with the store here and that if I put the camera back in the post they would refund me. The very same night the money was back in my account without any camera in their possesion or a reciept  If I had been the type I could have easily not sent the camera back, but I did :-D
Can you imagine this happening here. I rang head office here to tell them how disgusted I was with the service I had got in the UK and told them needed to learn a few lessons from the USA :flutter:
wow, that was really cool of them :-)
Yep  so I don't believe there was nothing the pc world twats couldn't have done lolol :mad::mad::mad::mad:
wow that surely sucks deb,
i hate shit like that but it happens again and again to customers, sometimes customers don't know their rights and sometimes even when they get beaten by the salesperson
maybe we all should stop buying stuff and end being consumers but probably for most people that's even worse so what else could you do? kick some people's ass? come with a lawyer?
frankie, Daves pretty good at not buying from stores / companies that have treated us badly lol. We aren't allowed to buy Phillips anymore after a dvd recorder nightmare that went on for yrs lolol. He wont let me buy from Comey after a sat nav nightmare last xmas ( remember the sat nav Anji lol, poxy thing :hehe:) I remember telling Comet that day that I was going to stand outside their shop and tell everyone not to but anything from them :devillaugh: Actually come to think of it, I seem to remember doing that to a queue of people today lol. Also on the way out of the shop :devillaugh:
But yep frankie I think this is the only way to make them stop treating us like this. After all their is so much competition out there they need our custom.
i hate bad service and if anybody treats me bad like that i won't go there again, there are already a few companies where i don't go anymore
at least this forum has a good service :-D
oh boy do you think i could forget that Deb :hehe:
I dont know how many people i asked for directions in that pub :haha: think that poor waitress thought i was crazy, that is until i put you on the phone :lmao: suddenly i looked quite calm :lmao:
It certainly made the evening more interesting lol topped by a cool band

That's horrible Deb!!!!
I'm glad you gave them a piece of your mind, and I'm sorry they weren't more cooperative about trying to help rectify the situation. Good thing you realized it before you'd gotten it home!

Aw, you poor thing Deb... People can be so nasty... Sorry you had to go through that!
Aww, this is bad Deb
I know the problem with the service, i had it already more often...
but since then i only bought pc parts and then build it themselves ;-)
Thanks all of you
Yeah usually mine are all built by my father in law Alex. but this time hubby decided to buy one, Always a problem imo
The problem we have now is the computer we chose (in 1 min flat as they shut the doors at 6pm) isn't really what we wanted and the more I read online about it the less happy I am :-( So as of now it's still sitting in the box looking at me

From what I'm told by my frinds it seems alienware.com is the way to go if you want a really good computer and fantastic service without qeues at the best price, Deb. Don't know if this helps...
That sucks Deb, the law as it stands means that if something is wrote down a price an actual description of what you are getting for your money then they have to sell it at that price and with the things it should have ie, your computer.
So they were just lying there arses off. I have had many superb customer incidents, where i won the battle:-D But i am brain dead now and will have to regale my tale at another time!
Yeah that's what I thought Chelle :-( Can't wait to hear your soap box rants

i can completely sympathise barb, when casey was 4 months old, my water and heating didnt work for 3 weeks, it was sept and getting cold enough...i was threatening the council with law suits and everything, i really went mad at them, they finally fixed it and gave me 3 weeks rent refunded, it didnt make me feel any better though. It's really not nice not having heating or even hot water to have a nice bath, especially with these really cold days we've been having lately :hugs:

From then until now I'e been transferring files from more hard drives than I can count and setting up programmes and making things work or not with stupid vista  Not done yet but getting there apart from the retard moment I had last week when I permanently erased over half of my 500gb external hard drive  so today finally feeling I was getting somewhere and typing away and .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ............... suddenly nothing  darkness and no power, the STUPID computer died!!!!!

Thanks Val :-( I did tell them if this one goes wrong I will be killing someone  :hehe: :finger:
But third time lucky and all that  I'm seriously considering throwing them out the window if this one goes wrong, i'm starting to think i shouldn't have a computer and someones telling me to rejoin the real world fast :devillaugh:

i am well on the soap box today and gunning for a gas fitter,he had better go into hiding...there is nowhere to hide....lol... we have paid out £450 been without heating and hot water for nearly 3 weeks, and my other half has managed to fix it himself today, his mate his a fitter who lives a long way away and has talked him through it all on the phone and it turns out the fitter has not fitted the 1st part properly in the 1st place,so we didnt need to buy the two other parts that he then fitted.I feel like punching him in the side of the head, the only good thing is that at the moment i am having to take steroids for my bad eye and the side effects are aggressive behaviour so i would probably get away with it...lol...and at least now we have heating and hot water so i can now go out as i can colour my hair i will no longer be grey...lol
bloodflowerz
31-01-2009, 17:35
I've heard so many similar stories, Battybarb... Just can't trust anyone these days...
That sucks Barb. But at least you can cover the grey now and go out and forget your troubles for a few hrs lol :hehe:
badforgood
31-01-2009, 19:42
That's awful Barb!:-( Glad your heating is fixed now, though.:-)
battybarb
31-01-2009, 22:43
thanks,i feel much better now the grey hair has gone....lol
I'm glad you got it sorted but thats ridiculous :-( they would definately be getting an angry call from me, some proffessional traders just take advantage of us not knowing what parts are for :hmm:

back on soap box, when i went shopping today there was this sweet little old lady at the bus stop, well i thought she was sweet until she started spitting all over the ground and that is one of my pet hates,i really really cannot stand it,makes me feel sick.she did not even just do it once she was spitting all over the place and getting closer and closer to me,then i had to say something, all i said was "excuse me but thats not nice and you are getting very near me when spitting on the floor" she promptly told me to mind my own **** business, good job she was elderly,i just walked away as i would never be rude to an eldery person,it just made me mad.
I completely agree Barb....it is a disgusting habit, i put it up with with peeing in public, the other day i parked my car in our little car park by our flat and a guy came up a pee'd just behind the car, i was just about to get out and get the kids to go back in the flat, there's no way i want casey seeing somethig like that so i moved the car to a different spot while he was in the middle of doing it so everyone could see, he just gave me a really dirty look, it's disgusting!! There's a pub right next to car park if he really needed to go that bad!! Some people just have no 'standards' (thats not the right word but cant think of a better one right now lol )
battybarb
02-03-2009, 10:35
that is disgusting,i totally agree with you,its bad enough when they do it of a night when they are drunk, but during the day when there are kids about.i think now ( but im not sure) if they get caught by the police there is quite a hefty fine. Also during the day there are enough shops or shopping centres with toilets in,there is just no excuse
Yep..as i said there is a pub right next door so definately no excuse in my case!! You're right the police will fine you for doing that and rightly so, i think its 60 or 80 pounds.

Anji you so haven't done a whole tour at outdoor venues have you
Not that I would EVER do that of course :-D
Can someone hide this thread from Heather, Stu, Chelle and Mark :devillaugh:
lol Deb i bet you never found someones car to do it to while their kids were in it though :hehe:
 IF I haven't I'm sure it was more luck than judgement :devillaugh:
You should ask Heather or Mark about the team of rugby players in the car park at the Key Club :devillaugh::devillaugh::devillaugh::devillaugh:

gonna have just a little moan today, cant believe what i saw on tv yesterday, the government now are thinking of putting a tax on chocolate ( like on cigarettes) because they think people are eating too much of it.....what will it be next...fresh air,
lol i think its a scottish mp that has suggested it :hehe:
i can see the theory behind it but i dont think it will work or ever actually happen :-p
we'll have to stock up now just in case lol
battybarb
16-03-2009, 03:50
might go and get a lorry load...lol.
see today they are now thinking of putting up drink again but this time by 50p per unit of alcohol, that means a bottle of spirit will be over £30,if this goes through it will def kill off all the remaining pubs in the country, putting even more people out of work and i do not think it will affect the alcoholics as they are saying because they will still get it one way or the other.
i kind of agree with this, i'm not so sure it should go up in the pubs though, maybe just shops and off licences :hmm: i'm undecided
Would certainly put off the drunks hanging round my car park with a big bottle in their hand
battybarb
17-03-2009, 10:35
we dont have drunks, just drunk kids, who get it from the local shop.
