I know the day had to come when I finally introduce myself. And since today is kind of the most important day of the year and it's not good to leave some things in new year.. so here it is, finally.

So, hello! *waves*.
I'm mellukas, soon to be 20. University student from one of the most beautiful city in Estonia - Tartu! Love cats and vampires, drink way too much tea in one day and photograph whenever I can everything I can (Need a photographer? Call me!). Also cook when I'm mad. (My sister ate my nerves once just to get a cake)
Like juggling and capoeira, fire and reading. (Haven't read a while. My books look sad. Can books look sad?)

Quote that suits me: "I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes. I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worse, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best." (M.Monroe). Oh, and I like quotes and I can quote quite a lot of people. (Good vision memory)

Been Marays fan for ages. She has inspired me so much, she has been a rolemodel. When she graduated, her mom told me that Maryas teachers were surprised how well Marya did. As you know, she was mostly in Germany with VN at the times. And that inspired me to study hard also. I can say hand on heart, there aren't enough words to describe that girl.

And I talk. I talk a lot!

This is me. Hello. =)

hi mel,
nice introduction!!!

where's tartu, far away from tallin? and how many people live there?

mellukas
01-01-2009, 09:30
I used to live in Tõrva (population .. about 3000), that is so close to Latvia that we always said that we "Almost live in North-Latvia". When I went to Uni, i moved to Tartu, but visit Tõrva as often as I can.

Population of Tartu is about 101,965 (year 2007). And it is about 187 km from Tallinn, in South-Estonia. In Tartu, we have the first university in Estonia so Tartu is called "city of smartness" (because we have so many university students) and "city of good thoughts".

If you ever happen to visit Estonia, make sure you go to Tartu!!

Deb
01-01-2009, 11:32
What are you studying at Uni Mel?

I'd love to visit Estonia. I've heard many great things about it. So sorry to hear about the economic climate there right now though. Hope it hasn't effected you or your loved ones too much.

At the moment I'm studying "Early Years Teacher". Next year I want to take another specialty also - want to add Psychology in my curriculum. "Early Years Teacher" would be my major and psychology minor. Not sure how how i'll survive it. :xmas_sad:

Congratulations on a fantastic introduction, Mellukas! You rock! :-)
You are very brave and you have my sympathy wanting to be a teacher. I speak from experience, when I say: it's a fu**ing tough ride! Long live Marya Roxx for being your role model! :-)

mellukas
03-01-2009, 14:06
bloodflowerz, you are not the first to say "You have my sympathy". Should I be scared?
And speaking from experience? Do tell, I'm interested.

bloodflowerz
03-01-2009, 14:52
Well, I taught for 7 years and still do a little. Basically it's the parents you do the battle with. Their kiddies are always right, the teacher always wrong. That's the problem in a nutshell... Sad, but true.

In a nutshell: Be reasonable but clear, don't back down on principles and never ever try to be "one of them".

Hm, that I can do I think. I'll survive, Im sure of that.

You sound like you will. But the proof is in the pudding - you really only know once you've done it for a few years...

You sound like you will. But the proof is in the pudding - you really only know once you've done it for a few years...

My only worry is that they love me until they develop the ability to judge. Its weird cuz all kids love me, for some unknown reason. But, paranoid as i am, i think they hate me. despite that they all try to hug me when they see me. can someone be.. huggable. theres no such word, is there? :hmm:

Deb
09-01-2009, 00:14
LOL Mel I'm sure there is and if there Isn't then we will make one :hehe:

I have many friends who are huggable and I guess I must be as well as they're for ever hugging me as well :hugs:

Stop with the paraniao (sp) having a stupid moment and can't spell the word to save my life and haven't got time to google lolol Kids like you not cause they haven't learnt to judge yet but because they haven't grown up to be judgemental yet ;-) kids see the real person far more than most adults do :-)

bloodflowerz
09-01-2009, 01:41
Deb's pretty much put it as well as it can be put, Mellukas. Don't worry too much. I think as a teacher it won't really be such a concern, whether the kids like you or not - far more important is that they mature under your care and learn the curriculum in the process.

mellukas
11-01-2009, 01:30
Oh, I love then Deb uses "show content" buttons. You always have something really well (and mean) said under it. And yes, lets make word huggable!!

bloodflowerz - kids tend to love me. and i tend to be.. stubborn. if i have an idea its hard to stop me making it happen. So, my plan - survive and teach those kids to be a respectful, honest and caring, happy people. Stop one - survive next half of the year. it will be cool. first three days are from 8am to 6pm. no break. How the rest of it will go, dont know. I was too scared to check it after that. :P

Anji
11-01-2009, 07:38
Good luck Mel :-) I'm sure you'll do just fine, Deb is absolutely right, kids are the best judge of characters, they see the person and not other utlimately meaningless stuff that other adults see.

If i think back to who i think made good teachers when i was young (geez, i feel so old typing that lol) its a mixture of strict teachers and friendly teachers, i think the best kinda teacher is one who is friendly and can talk to the kids on their level, without talking down to them but someone who they also know they cant get away with anything. You sound like a pretty level headed person so i'm sure once you've settled in and found your groove you'll be just fine :-) I admire anyone who wants to do this for a living, i dont think i could ever do it, so kudo's for even giving it a try

bloodflowerz
11-01-2009, 07:43
Don't worry Mellukas - it'll be ok. Try not to be tense or at least not ot show it... :-)

Deb
11-01-2009, 12:49
Keep us updated on this week Mel  we need a daily diary lol .... so we know how it all goes

But I'm sure you will be great and the kids will love you :-D Without having to go back and read everything, what age is it this week?

mellukas
12-01-2009, 14:22
Daily diary, uh? Okay. Today: woke up, survived, went to bed. :D (Actually going to swimming later, earlier practised capoeira and made a soup that is totally healthy and eatable! )

Deb
26-01-2009, 10:02
Ahhh, yeah Mel did you survive the babysitting :-D

mellukas
26-01-2009, 12:06
I survived.
They had some fights but they all ended fast. I had to leave on Saturday tho (not on Sunday as planned) because I got sick. :( Been in bed since then, today feeling better.
But babysitting was cool. Now i know i can do it.

battybarb: In some ways teaching is what ive wanted to do. But not always. I've had 4 wishes who to be in life: teacher, psychologist, ice-skater/choreographer and... last but not least - president. (When all girls dreamed about being princess or model or famous pop star.. i wanted to be a president). I'm in uni studying teaching and almost psychology. I'm going to.. practice that in some way is dancing.. so only one thing left. :P

mellukas
05-02-2009, 01:37
Glad to say I'm fine again. (I think.)

And if you comparise me with Obama.. then I have to at least try to be a president! First female president in Estonia, sounds good.

I just realised, i forgot one thing from my introduction: I have a great imagination. When I read / hear something, I automatically picture it in my head. (and more, than just was told. If you have seen "Scrubs", then one of the main character has the same thing). Some of my friends know it well and... tell me all kind of weird things knowing - it will picture it with all details...

And I love Ford Mustangs. And I wanna learn to play guitar.

05-02-2009, 01:52
I love Ford Mustangs too. My dad has a classic one - a 1965. It's my favorite car to ride around in.

Oh, thats cool! Feel free to invite me there! I envy you actually...But no matter what others say - envy is good. It makes you trying harder to get what you want. :-D

good morning president Mellukas

Ever thought about being vice president? :flutter:
But you understood me a little bit incorrectly. I'm still studying to be a teacher, so I went be able to actually teach child.. well, before spring. Then I have to do practical work. Next week starts my school - where they teach me how to teach. :P

Back by popular demand.
Few words about where I was and what was I doing. Well, it all comes down to one word actually - school. Did some long days (8am-20pm). It was the end of one course so had some studying to do. Also, had to make some presentations that name I shall not say because you will not understand it. I had problems understanding it in estonian.. On second guess, it would be fun if I could hear you pronouncing it. :D The title was "Õppe-eesmärkide formuleerimine abstraktsuse – konkreetsuse skaalal ja konkreetsete õppe-eesmärkide formuleerimine. B. S. Bloomi koolkonna taksonoomiad" Actually it turned out to be a lot easier than it sounds.

Also, i was babysitting a little 2 months old boy. We fell in love with each other the moment we met. He had a bad mood when I arrived and when I hold him, he looked at me, smiled and started "speaking". Now he can crow so the second time i went there, he smiled even more (with voice!) and now I just had to listen, he did all the talking. He fall in deep sleep before his parents came (and his parents were happy because they usually have some problems with putting him to sleep). Anyway, I have had some great time and IF YOU NEED A BABYSITTER; CALL ME!!

Now comes again days where I have to be 2 places at the same time. I must admit, I love it! Also, dreaming about summer and planning a trip somewhere so feel free to say much good things about your homecountry. :P

Last but not least, missed you all! :)

Deb
29-03-2009, 12:02
Sorry Mel, 1st chance I've had to sit and write more than a one word response lol.

Firstly... great to have you back :woot:

I'm gonna pass on trying to pronounce that  I can't even read it in my head lol. Sounds fun, NOT lololol. Hope you did well with it :-)

Glad the babysitting went well. I knew you could do it :-p Have you baby sat him a lot since I last spoke to you? Do you have a spare month in May ;-)

I'd love to say good things about my country but I really can't :devillaugh: I heard Germany is cool in May though :devil_dance:

Because my first plan "Lestat"... estonians prnounce is just so wrong. And my second idea Slash was already given to my cactus (All my cactuses have names) and then it was named just.. Dave. Later I thought Heath would be an awsome name also, but didnt want to change it any more.

I hope it's a good and not bad thing that i made you lost your words. :-p And seems like I did come back earlier rather later. Havent had my exam yet. But my brain stopped working..
------------------------------------

Actually, since I'm going out to my favourite place tonight (Genialistide klubi. I love how the place introduces itself - "its Tartus subculture house, meetingplace of the opened and special people. Here mix thetre, music, cinema and joy. There is no elitismculture, no massclture and no noneculture. There is just what touches you what doesnt. There are ideas, There is tolerance. There is open openness. You can be in the club too! But you dont have to, if you dont want - no one can force you do anything. Not anyone like the club anyway." to see some great bands - Animal Drama, Leegitsev Sidrun (http://www.myspace.com/leegitsevsidrun) and Unholy Fables (http://www.myspace.com/unholyfables). The main reason i'm going there is.. capoeira. People from our training are doing a little preformance there. And now, I would like to tell you a bit about capoeira since this is something that stole my heart with few seconds and have influenced my life a lot, like Marya.

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art form that combines elements of martial arts, games, music, and dance. Created in Brazil by slaves around 16th century. Since slaves were forbbiden to pracitse fighting, they started doing capoeira saying they are just dancing.

Participants form a roda, or circle, and take turns either playing musical instruments (such as the Berimbau), singing (actually everyone sing), or ritually sparring in pairs in the center of the circle. The sparring is marked by fluid acrobatic play, feints, and extensive use of sweeps, kicks, and headbutts. Even tho, no physical contact and always eye contact when playing in paris. (you dont look others feet, what he might you, you read it from his eyes).

There are two styles of capoeira - regional and angola. Angola is older and more dancelike. Capoeira Angola is often characterized as being slower and lower to the ground. Regional is more common, developed by Mestre Bimba to make capoeira more effective and bring it closer to its fighting origins, and less associated with the criminal elements of Brazil. Its considered faster than Angola. Also, regional has high jumps, acrobatics, and spinning kicks. (I do regional).

Regional ranks capoeiristas (capoeira players) by ability, denoting different skill with the use of a corda (colored rope) worn as a belt. Recognition of advanced skill comes only after many years of constant practic. Teachers or mestres cant give you just the belt - yu hve to earn it. I havent got a belt yet, since to get the first one you need to do capoeira at least 6 months and when we had batizado (where new members are taken in groupe and people with enough skills get names and belts) i was just a beginner. Batizados are not held so often.

For me, capoeira isnt just a hobby or a practise where i go twice a week. For me.. its a lifestyle..

I guess no, because in capoeira the kicks are specific.

I'm really glad you find it interesting. I just got myself some books about it, to get to know more about it. Since I'm now almost a capoeirista, i want to know more about it. I decided I want to get a belt also. So, i want to train more and more and get myself in better shape and know everything I can.
