View Full Version : Enya
Enya was born Eithne Ni Bhraonain in Co. Donegal, Ireland. Enya studied classical music at college and under private tuition. On leaving college she was asked by Producer Nicky Ryan to join her siblings in their family band. She did so for a short time, but found it too restrictive musically, and so in 1982 she joined Nicky Ryan and Roma Ryan in a creative and business partnership. Enya's first commission was to write a score for Sir David Puttnam for his film "The Frog Prince". Then, the triumvirate secured the soundtrack to the BBC documentary series 'The Celts'. Enya was then signed up by Warner Music and all three by EMI Music Publishing. The first album of this contract was "Watermark" with the hit single "Orinoco Flow". This was followed by "Shepherd Moons" "The memory of trees" "Paint the sky with Stars" "A day without rain" which produced the single 'Only Time' "Amarantine" and for "Lord of the Rings; the fellowship of the Ring" the songs "Aniron" and "May it be". Enya, Nicky and Roma were nominated for a Golden Globe Award and for an Academy Award for the song "May it be" and have also merited many other nominations and awards, including the Ivor Novello for International Achievement. The latest honours bestowed on Enya were two Honorary Degrees, the University of Galway honoured her with Doctor of Music and the University of Ulster honoured Enya with Doctor of Letters.

I remember being intrigued by Enya's music when she first started, but after a while it all sounded the same. So, sorry to say - not my style!
Enya was on TV here in the UK last night on 'Chlidren in need' Singing live

Lol, Anji, what a cute response!
lol.i think enya's music is for old people. the young teens mostly dont like something like that - the young's prefer hil hop or rapp music ! lol
I'm old and I don't like Enya :-p I also don't like rap and hip hop :mad::rant: I wish my kids didn't either as the noise coming out of their rooms stresses me out beyond belief lol

Well, I can't imagine Marya liking Enya either - she's just so commercial and plastic. Can't stand her music and can't stand her as a person either. But as an artist I respect her - she does her thing.
I like pretty much anything :-p and apparantly i'm getting old lol
I'm young and listening Enya.
if you like enya or not is up to your taste, but it seems many people like and listen to her cause she's really successful, she sold more than 70 million cds
hopefully marya tops her one day :-)
you've got to admire her originality if nothing else :-p
My only prob with her is alot of her songs sound similar thats all.

Exactly my point, Anji. Enya is one of those artists who feed the imagination of the "Doo-gooders" club, if you know what I mean. All sounds the same to me, I'm afraid.

lmao Prox :hehe: you have a wonderful way with words :-p
I guess Enya is very ...erm....mellow :-D
I havent heard any of her new stuff, the last song i heard from her was back in the 80's  so i am definately not the right person to judge her lol

i agree with mike!!!!! i think maria mena is better! she has similar sttyle with enya
whether you like her or not she seems to have had a reasonably successful career ;)
her stuff has always sounded very similiar i think, back in the 80's it was a novelty but i'm not sure it would work on me now :-p having said that i wouldnt turn off orinoco flow if it came on the radio :hehe:
yes orinoco flow is cool :-D and i also like flora's secret lol
it's just a totally different music style from these i listen to regularly... i like many styles though and sometimes i can't stand a song or artist i have loved once :-) it's also a matter of mood i think.
but saying that all of enya's songs sound the same is wrong if you really know it well... if someone hears any metal for the first time he will think the same ;-) ...but of course nobody will get to know all the songs well if he/she simply doesn't like it lol
I love Enya, she a good voice
Don't get me wrong Nicola, i love Enya, she's not so accessible in the uk anymore, but i love the fact that she's still thriving. It's great that such an original artist is still around :-D
